Installation

Installation is a breeze on a WinXP system and I can confirm that the iAUDIO
6 does install as a mass storage device and is assigned a drive letter for
driver-less file transfers when on the road. This is a small but
important feature that most actually look for. The iAUDIO 6 uses a
file structure with the ability to browse all main system folders with ease.
While this may sound good to a majority, it is certainly not for those who
are coming from a player with full Tag support. I'll explain,
in detail, a bit later in this review.
Bundled Software

The
bundled software consists of two main applications...JetShell & JetAudio.
However, there are a variety of other tools that are installed. Let's
take a closer look at each of these...
JetAudio

The
JetAudio application is a Winamp/MusicMatch style application that basically
serves as your audio playback and conversion tool. It will allow you
to easily rip and convert both your audio and and video files for proper
playback on the iAUDIO 6. Considering the iAUDIO 6 only supports XviD
(MPEG4) playback, you'll want to stick to this application for the easiest
method of converting all your video files for proper playback.

You'll be able to rip all your CDs to a variety of supported formats,
including WAV, MP3, FLAC, APE, MPC, OGG, and even RealMedia using their
codecs. Unlike many products on the market, Cowon's got you covered,
and you're not limited to just MP3 or WMA files.

JetAudio will allow you to easily convert all your audio and video files for
proper playback on the iAUDIO 6. The audio converter will allow you to
pick from a variety of encoders, including FLAC, OGG, MPC and even RealMedia.
The Video converter allows you to encode based on presets for a specific
device. In this case, you have a few options for the iAUDIO 6,
including the quality and bit rate at which you wish to encode. This
tool does support AVI, MPG and many other formats. However, like many
tools out there, it all depends on the source video as to whether or not it
will be able to convert it properly. I will test this further and
comment on it in the video section of this review article.

It
even features a record menu that will allow you to record from a variety of
sources and you can choose the encoder of your choice as well. JetAudio will also allow you to burn CDs with ease. This is a nice
feature to have, considering many may not have the money to purchase a good
burning suite such as Nero, etc.
JetShell

JetShell is probably the application you'd want to use to transfer your
files over to the iAUDIO 6. It features an explorer-like interface and
will allow you to sync directories, upload custom logos and even format the
tiny hard drive on the player.

You
can drag n' drop files directly to the player or drop them over to a section
that will allow you to sort and create playlists prior to transferring.
WMP 10

For
fans of WMP 10, I can confirm you'll be able to use the iAUDIO 6 along with
it. Considering the player installs as a mass storage device on a
WinXP system, you'll be able to sync the device with Media Player with ease.
