There are quite a number of HTPC cases out
there to choose from, some of which may not only appear to impress, but some
that may meet your very specific needs. However, when it comes down to HTPC cases,
component support and overall size are key factors and most tend to buy on impulse based on overall aesthetics
alone. That's where the new Silverstone GD02 comes in. Coming
from a highly respected company when it comes to quality and attention to
detail, the
GD02 is their latest in their mainstream Grandia Series built primarily for
those with limited room for all your home theater components. Let's
have a detailed look...

In terms of packaging, expect a high level
of emphasis on it when it comes to Silverstone products. This case
ships is a very appealing box and when you open it up, you'll be greeted by
an enclosure that is covered by a custom fabric black bag. While not
double boxed, chances are this case will not be damaged during
shipment. Included with the case is a white box that contains all the
necessary hardware to install your components and also comes with a brief
manual to guide you through this process.

In addition to the excellent packaging, the
case has tape on all the front panel areas with movable parts. Now, one important thing to
note is that while this case is available in both silver or black, the black
model reviewed here really sports a two-toned black/dark grey finish. In
most of the pictures you'll find, it can appear as one solid color but the
front aluminum panel sports a much darker brushed finish. The pics
above taken with flash will actually give you an overall idea.
However, the shade of grey is dark enough where you won't be able to tell
the difference in such an environment where low lighting is expected.
The top panel of the chassis is raised (not flat) and held together with allen screws to help
support all the internal components as I will show you in the next section.
The bottom and sides have vents to help dissipate heat more efficiently.
